Getting started

What do I need?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later with a working compass and camera. Recent Pro models give the best results. No other hardware is needed.

How do I set up a site?

Tap + on the Projects screen, name the project and locate it by address or your current position. Open it, add one area per roof face or ground section, and outline each on the Aerial tab.

How do I capture the sky?

Open the Sun Path tab, point the phone at the sky and tap the real sun once to calibrate the compass. A red band shows the annual solar envelope. Sweep the phone slowly along it; frames capture automatically and the band turns green as you go. When it's all green the capture saves and the Sky Editor opens.

Why do I have to tap the sun?

Phone compasses drift, especially near steel roofs and electrical equipment. Aligning on the sun's actual position gives a true-north reference that's far more reliable than the magnetic compass alone. If the sun is behind cloud, wait for a break or align on a known landmark bearing.

Editing and results

What is the Sky Editor for?

It shows the stitched sky from your capture. Trace the obstructions that matter: trees, chimneys, parapets, neighbouring buildings. The shade report uses exactly what you mark, so take a moment to be precise.

The overhead part of the sky looks distorted or has a hole.

That's expected. The capture only covers the band of sky the sun actually crosses during the year, and objects very close overhead (decks, eaves, garages) can smear because of parallax. Mark them in the editor; the report treats the mask as the truth.

What's in the shade report?

Annual solar access, TSRF, month-by-month charts, the sun-path chart with your obstructions, site coordinates, capture date and time, and your company name and logo from your profile.

Exports

Which formats do you produce?

A PDF shade report, a horizon file in PVsyst convention (also accepted by PV*SOL), and a HelioScope CSV. All are generated from the Export tab and shared through the standard iOS share sheet.

How do I import into PVsyst?

In PVsyst, open your project and go to Project settings → Horizon → Import, then select the Erebus horizon file. Check the horizon line against the on-screen sun-path chart before saving.

How do I import into HelioScope?

Open the project's shading or horizon settings for the field segment, choose to import a horizon profile and pick the Erebus file. Confirm the azimuth convention is true-north referenced and check the line before running the simulation.

Your data

Where are my projects stored?

On your iPhone only. There is no account and no cloud copy. Back up your phone (iCloud or computer) to keep them safe; deleting the app deletes them.

Can I use it on more than one device?

The app installs on any iPhone signed in with your Apple Account, but projects don't sync between devices in this version.
